Meet the Maker: Shape + Form

When it comes to upping your earring game, Myranda from Shape + Form is a maker you need to know! Her polymer clay earrings play with shapes and textures for a result that is one-of-a-kind wearable art. We can’t wait to share Myranda’s business and story with you in today’s meet the maker!

Hi Myranda! Thanks for sharing your story with us today! Can you please tell everyone a little about yourself?

My name is Myranda Escamilla. I currently reside in Texas and I’m from Brownsville, the very southern tip of Texas near Mexico. I am a polymer clay artist and I make contemporary earrings. I’ve worked with various mediums and am currently exploring other creative options.

We love the earrings you create and can’t wait to hear more about those other creative options! What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

The best advice I’ve ever been given – perhaps not the best, but the most memorable – don’t do anything you don’t want to do. I apply this to my work a lot as I rely heavily on intuition.

That’s a great piece of advice– it’s so important to trust your gut! Tell us about your Shape + Form! What do you make and how long have you been doing it?

I created a jewelry business named Shape + Form in 2019 and sell primarily earrings made of lightweight polymer clay. It began as an eclectic, all-over-the-place line of jewelry but has since evolved to a more streamlined, artful and minimalist style as I’ve gotten to know myself better through clay.

We love your style! What is the most memorable response you’ve had to your work?

The most memorable response to my work has been that of surprise – surprise that I have no formal education in art or design. Being self-taught is something I’m proud of, it has taken a lot of discipline, effort, research and dedication to teach myself what I know.

That’s incredible– you’ve developed such a special style! What advice would you give a young artist?

It’s possible to find creative success without an art degree!

You are such an inspiration to others who want to create but may not have formal training. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

If I could travel anywhere in the world, it would be Japan. I’ve always wanted to visit and witness a place where things are made with utmost mastery and purpose. There’s so much inspiration in that way of life.

That’s one of my favorite places in the world! I hope you make it to Japan soon! Thanks so much for sharing your story with us today, we are so thankful to have you as a maker at Mosaic Makers Collective!
