Meet the Maker: Chronicles of a Pixie

Meet the Maker: Chronicles of a Pixie

If you’re ready to sprinkle a little bit of magic into your wardrobe, you’ll love meeting today’s maker. Brittany, the founder of Chronicles of a Pixie, is spreading pixie dust through her whimsical headbands. From berry rose to orange buffalo check to rainbows and stars, she’s got a headband for any occasion! We can’t wait to share the story behind Chronicles of a Pixie with you today!

Hi Brittany! Thanks for sharing your story with us today! Can you please tell us a little about yourself?

I’m a stay-at-home/work-from-home mama (to an amazing 2-year-old), wife, and maker. While I’m originally from Illinois, I’ve been in Texas for about 9 years now and y’all has officially become a part of my vocabulary. I’ve lived across the DFW metroplex over the past several years, but am happy to call Fort Worth my home now. When I’m not sewing headbands I love to read, write, drink coffee, and spend time with family.

We’re so glad to claim you as a Texan! This past year has been a tough one. Can you share something good that has come out of this time?

It really has been challenging, but I do believe there’s always a silver lining. I’m learning to be much more intentional about how I use my time and a bit more present in the moment.

That’s a really lovely silver lining! Tell us about Chronicles of a Pixie! What do you make and how long have you been doing it?

Chronicles of a Pixie started with a floral mouse ear headband just over 3 years ago. My husband and I were about to go on a trip to Disney World and I crafted a pair of floral mouse ears for the trip. When I showed them to friends and family they encouraged me to open an Etsy shop and that’s how it all got started. While the floral headbands were really fun to make, I changed directions a bit to create something that could be worn and enjoyed every day. Months after opening my shop I started playing with headband styles for myself. When I finally designed the perfect headband pattern I couldn’t wait to offer it in my shop. I love creating the headbands in prints that represent certain fandoms and other fun statement prints.

The name Chronicles of a Pixie came with the idea that we were all on some journey that’s meant to be celebrated. My hope when you put on the headband is that you feel like it’s a special statement – showing off a bit of your personality and journey. Of course, the Pixie part is a little nod to the magic that inspired it all.

That’s such a fun origin story! We love that you’re creating a little magic every day! What are you most proud of?

This year I rolled out a Headbands for a Cause initiative through my Etsy shop. It started as a bit of a new year’s resolution for my shop. I really wanted to find a way to give back to others and decided to try a year-long giving back opportunity for my customers. Each month I offer a specialty headband, or a special shopping weekend, to fundraise for a specific cause. So far Chronicles of a Pixie has donated to places like the Cast Member Pantry, NAMI, Autism Society, and a Go Fund Me for a power wheelchair for another maker’s son. I couldn’t do this without the support of my amazing customers. It has really been so incredible to see the overwhelming support for each cause. I’m so excited to continue this monthly for the remainder of the year and how else I can grow this giving back element in the future.

What an incredible way to make the world a better place! What is your favorite part of your job?

I love making something that brings happiness to others. Thanks to Instagram I’ve been able to see my customers wearing their headbands while on their vacations, at special events, and in everyday life. It’s so incredible to see someone wearing something you made. It’s been 3 years and it hasn’t gotten old. I don’t expect that it ever will.

Social media is a really special way to connect with customers and see your products bring joy to others! Aside from visiting MMC, what’s your favorite thing to do in Bishop Arts District?

I love exploring all of the shops and restaurants in Bishop Arts! I used to live in Dallas and worked at the Dallas Zoo for a while too. I was constantly in the area and always loved grabbing a latte at Espumoso Caffè, eating lunch at Oddfellows, and checking out the gorgeous arrangements at DIRT.

That sounds like a perfect day in the Bishop Arts District to me! Thanks so much for sharing your story with us today. We’re so glad to have you as a maker at Mosaic Makers Collective!
