Explore Bishop Arts: Bishop Cider Company

Hot day, cold cider. Is there anything better? We don’t think so! If you’ve been to the Bishop Arts District, you know our community is special. It’s a hub for creatives of all kinds, and today, we’re sharing a 21+ kind of creativity! Bishop Cider Company founder, Laura Malone, joins us today to share about their gluten-free, vegan-friendly, no-sugar-added, Texan-made cider! Cheers, y’all!

Hi Laura! Thanks so much for joining us today for a chat about one of our favorite beverages in the Bishop Arts District-- hard cider! Can you please tell us a little about your business?

Bishop Cider Company is our name and making delicious hard cider is our game. Well, it was! Now along with hard cider, we make and sell Mama Bear Hard Kombucha and Rotator Hard Smoothies. We named our company after, surprise, the Bishop Arts District which is where our first cidery is located. We have always loved what BAD represents: originality, creativity, and diversity. We wanted our business to reflect those characteristics.

We think you’ve done an amazing job incorporating the neighborhood’s values into your brand. Tell us about the founder: who are they and what inspired them to start the business?

The founders of the company are Joel and Laura (me!) Malone. BCC was founded out of our love for hard cider and there were no local options. The ones you could actually find lacked flavor diversity and creativity.

You definitely upped the cider game in town! Where are you located?

Our original cidery, now the Bishop Cider Tasting Room, is located on Bishop Ave, between Lockhart and Bishop Street Market. We also have our Cidercade which is located in Dallas’ Design District about 10 minutes from the Tasting Room.

Just turn left out of our front door and it’s on your left just before W. Davis St at 401 N Bishop Ave! When did you open in the District?

We opened our doors in May 2014.

Cheers to many more years! What are your hours?

Monday - Thursday: 5 pm - 10 pm

Friday + Saturday: 12 pm - 12 am

Sundays: 12 pm - 6 pm

How did you end up in Bishop Arts District?

Being lifelong Dallas residents, we knew immediately where we would want to open our cidery. For a couple decades, BAD has been known as a cultural hotspot offering unique dining, shops, and is small business-friendly. It was the perfect fit.

Yes! Cider and Bishop Arts are a match made in heaven! What’s one product you sell that everyone needs to try?

Everyone needs to try Rotator, our new hard smoothies. They are full of real fruit, bubbles, and booze and are absolutely delicious.

It may be the first week of October, but today’s projected high is 93° -- perfect smoothie weather! Which Bishop Arts event is your favorite?

Brew Riot was always super fun but it hasn't happened in the past few years. We are also fans of Dash for the Beads.

We hope they bring Brew Riot back! Share the love: What’s your favorite Bishop Arts business?

Gosh, how to pick! Love Enos- the pizza and people are amazing. Can't ever get enough Emporium Pies. I could go broke at Dirt buying gorgeous plants. I also want to buy everything at All Good Things. Picole Pops, Tejas, Nora- love them all.

How cool is our neighborhood that choosing one amazing business is so difficult?! We are so lucky! And we are so thankful to have you as neighbors!
